Stronger than Steel...
As so often happens with single mothers, especially mothers of handicapped children, it’s impossible to separate Patty and her son Brent. They have a love that was forged through decades of trials. They travel together and always speak as a team. The book, The Coma Cure, is their story, a classic story of loss and recovery, fall and redemption. Above all it is a story of love that endures. Not just the love of a mother and son, but the love of God as He pursues us through all our seasons.
Two Books in One...
Brent asked to name his book "The Coma Cure" because he said the coma really had cured all his bad habits, which included smoking, drinking and drugs. Because he was in a coma for a while and because he doesn't remember his beginnings we wrote two perspectives of his life.
On one side is the book that describes Brent’s life and how a critical accident turned him from a drug addict into a man passionate to save the world one teen at a time. This book recounts how Brent slid into drugs and believed his only option was to ask God to get him off those drugs. Little did he know God would use the Coma Cure and years of physical rehabilitation to transform him from a drug addict into the man of joy he is today.
The flip side of Brent’s “The Coma Cure: How a Coma Cured All My Bad Habits”, is Patty’s book “The Coma Cure: A Mother’s Journey Through Her Son’s Coma”. While Brent focuses on causes and effects throughout his life, Patty’s book is about her own transformation from absentee mother to greatest fan of this remarkable man she is able to call “son.”
